What a week it’s been! We hope everyone in our c

What a week it’s been! We hope everyone in our community has stayed safe over the past few days. It hasn’t been all wind and rain at HillView—despite the wet weather, we still enjoyed Pancake Day, a pre-Alfred bus outing, and plenty of painting and exercise to keep us happy and healthy! Now, as the weather starts to clear up, we’re looking forward to more sunny days ahead. ☀️🌿

Power has now been restored to Ashmore.
All is now back to normal.

Alternative / Emergency contact numbers should our landlines be unavailable are –
• Ashmore - 0499 173 883 – currently not available due to mobile services still being down in area.
• Merrimac - 0407 156 655;

Cyclone Alfred made landfall on Saturday, 8 March, bringing destructive winds and heavy rainfall to the Gold Coast from Friday afternoon through Sunday evening. Some areas remain on flood alert, but both Ashmore and Merrimac remain accessible to staff, families, and visitors.

⚠️ Cyclone Alfred Update: Preparedness & Impact on the Gold Coast

As we prepare for the arrival of Cyclone Alfred, we are reminded of the resilience and dedication of our HillView Care Team. Just as they did during the COVID-19 pandemic, our team is stepping up once again to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents. We are incredibly grateful for their commitment—thank you.

Latest Update:
• The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts Cyclone Alfred to make landfall late Friday, 7 March, or early Saturday, 8 March, near Brisbane as a Category 2 system.
• The Gold Coast is already experiencing strong winds and heavy rain, with rainfall of up to 800mm possible in some areas.
• Power outages and transport disruptions may occur—please stay informed.

Staff Support & Emergency Plans:
• We are calling on staff to assist where possible by staying later, starting early, or taking on extra shifts. Please confirm with RNs before extending shifts.
• Overnight accommodation is available for staff at Merrimac Gooding Centre and the Ashmore Staff Room for those concerned about travel. Mattresses, linen, and sleeping bags are provided.

The QLD Premier has urged us all to prepare for the impact of Cyclone Alfred, expected to reach south-east QLD by Thursday evening, 6 March. The adverse weather conditions are likely to cause interruptions to power supply and affect accessibility / transport. Please see the below link which provides a worst-case scenario Flood mapping for the Gold Coast.
