Many people picture ageing as a time to rest, but it’s also a time to keep active. Yes, it’s true, some older adults need to physically slow down due to health reasons, but many people find renewed confidence and joy in keeping active, whether it’s through gentle movement, social connections, or just participating in activities that keep the body and mind stimulated.
At HillView Care, we understand that staying active isn’t just about staying physically healthy, it’s key to living well and maintaining good emotional and mental health. That’s why we developed the HillView Care Wellness Program across our Merrimac and Ashmore residences. A program designed to support health, happiness, and independence at every stage of ageing.
Ageing often brings mobility issues. Stiff joints, balance issues and other health conditions can make everyday life more challenging. Research shows that staying active helps to:
We’re not talking about running laps or lifting super-heavy weights. At HillView Care, we encourage residents to move in ways that feel natural. Our dedicated lifestyle team works with HillView Care physiotherapists to create a program that’s not only beneficial, but enjoyable too.
Whether it’s joining a walking group, playing Bocce or shuffleboard, or simply strolling through our beautiful gardens, residents can enjoy activities that promote gentle movement, stimulate the mind, and foster social connection. For residents living with dementia, we also provide tailored activities designed to keep them engaged, supported, and connected.
For residents who need more specialised support, our on-site physiotherapy team provides a tailored 12-week program. Every resident starts with a one-on-one assessment where we look at their personal goals, physical health, and preferences. Some may want to improve their balance to feel safer walking, while others may be focused on reducing pain or regaining confidence after an illness or injury.
The program may include:
After the first 6 weeks, we take a look at the resident’s progress, making adjustments if needed. At the end of the 12 weeks, residents are reassessed, and if suitable, begin another round with more goals.
Our team takes great pride in watching residents transform during our wellness program. We watch confidence build, conquer fears and do things they no longer thought possible. Even small achievements can have a big impact, building a sense of purpose and reinforcing that growing older doesn’t mean slowing down.
Exercise is always more fun when it’s with others. That’s why at HillView Care, we run weekly group gym sessions with our exercise therapists. These sessions are casual and supportive, filled with encouragement and laughter. They’re not about performance or competition, they’re about creating a positive atmosphere where residents feel motivated and supported.
It’s this social aspect that makes the Wellness Program so great. Movement is good for the body, but when combined with connection and fun, it becomes something residents genuinely look forward to.
The HillView Wellness Program is just one of the many ways we bring an innovative approach to traditional aged care. In our communities, residents feel at home, connected, and empowered to live their best and most active lives.
