Understanding the four types of care offered at HillView

When you’re looking into aged care options on the Gold Coast, it’s not just about choosing a service, it’s about finding the right kind of support for the stage of life your loved one is in.

We have four specialised care pathways at HillView Care, depending on your loved one’s needs. Whether they’re seeking short-term support, daily assistance, dementia care or comfort during advanced illness, we have specialised teams on hand and equipped to deliver the care they deserve.

Here’s a simple breakdown to help you understand each type of care:

Respite care – Short-term support for families and carers

Every carer needs a break, and our respite care ensures you get the time you need to rest and recharge. Respite residents get the same premium level of care as our permanent residents, including:

  • Comfortable rooms and private ensuite.
  • 24/7 medical support and on-site physiotherapy
  • Delicious home-cooked meals prepared by our on-site chefs
  • Daily activities, social programs and community outings
  • Beautiful facilities and stunning landscaped gardens
  • Hair and beauty services on-site
  • Wellness program

Many families also use respite stays as a soft introduction to residential aged care, helping loved ones become more familiar with the HillView Care community before making longer-term decisions.

Residential aged care – Everyday care 24/7

Residential aged care is for older adults who can no longer live independently and need help with daily tasks or ongoing medical support. We offer a home-like environment and a community where our residents feel like they truly belong.

Our Ashmore and Merrimac homes provide:

  • Private rooms with en-suites
  • Access to nurses and care staff at all times
  • Assistance with personal care, medication and mobility
  • Social engagement, fun activities and community connection
  • Individualised care plans shaped around personal needs

Dementia care – Specialised support for individuals with Dementia

If your loved one is living with Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, they’ll need specialised care from people who truly understand the condition. Our dedicated dementia care teams are trained to support residents with memory loss with compassion and respect.

What dementia care at HillView includes:

  • Secure, thoughtfully designed and comfortable spaces
  • Staff trained in dementia-specific communication and behaviours
  • Activities that encourage cognitive stimulation and social connection
  • Routines that help reduce confusion and anxiety
  • A calm, nurturing atmosphere that promotes independence

Palliative care – Comfort and dignity in the final stages of life

It’s challenging caring for a loved one with a life-limiting illness, especially when the care has to transition from treatment to comfort. Our palliative care focuses on quality of life for both the resident and their family.

Our approach to palliative care includes:

  • Gentle, personalised symptom and pain management
  • Emotional, spiritual and psychological support
  • Thoughtful communication with families and medical teams
  • Care plans built around the resident’s values, wishes and comfort
  • A peaceful environment that feels safe and supportive

How to know which care type is right?

An ACAT assessment, conducted by government-funded healthcare professionals, will help determine the level of support your loved one is eligible for. If you’re not sure how to begin the ACAT process, our team is always here to guide you.

We recommend booking a tour of our Gold Coast aged care homes in Ashmore or Merrimac. Seeing our facilities, meeting the staff, and asking questions can help you make a more informed decision.
