Hearts of healthcare: Meet Alain Rossignol – Enrolled Nurse

The HillView Care team is made up of some wonderful people who are dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of our residents. Among these professionals is Alain Rossignol, one of our experienced enrolled nurses. 

We had a chat with Alain to learn more about his journey into the world of aged care and to understand the person behind the nurse’s uniform.

Did you grow up locally? Where are you originally from? 

I was born and raised in Melbourne. In 1994 I made the big decision to move to the beautiful Gold Coast and it would change my life forever! 

What inspired you to become an enrolled nurse? 

From a young age, I was inspired by my mother, who was also a dedicated nurse. Her compassion and commitment to helping others left a lasting impression on me. So, it was no surprise that I followed in her footsteps to pursue a career in nursing. 

Tell us a bit about your work experience.

Over the years I have dedicated myself to my career, working at Robina Hospital for five years on a casual basis. While at Robina Hospital, I had the opportunity to gain valuable experience in various departments, including mental health, medical, and surgical wards, which broadened my skill set and deepened my passion for patient care. 

Do you have any other skills or qualifications? 

In addition to my nursing career, I became a licensed fire technician, working alongside my father for the past 5 years to manage his business. It was great to combine my technical skills with a sense of responsibility for fire safety in the community. I have now extended these skills to occupy the role of OH&S Officer at HillView Care, alongside my EN duties. 

What are your passions, what do you like to do outside of work? 

Outside of work, I have a diverse range of hobbies that make me happy. For peace and solitude, I enjoy fishing, and regular gym sessions help me stay fit, healthy and focused. 

One of my longest-standing passions has been playing the guitar. For nearly 25 years I’ve strummed and picked my way through various musical genres, finding both comfort and creativity in the strings of my instrument. 

I’ve also been fortunate to explore the world beyond Australia’s shores. My travels have taken me to fascinating places like Thailand and Cambodia, where I’ve immersed myself in diverse cultures, sampled delicious cuisines and expanded my horizons.
