The role of allied health in residential aged care

Ageing comes with many challenges, many of which are overcome with residential aged care. It provides your loved one with a supportive and nurturing environment where their unique needs are attended to by a dedicated team of professionals, ensuring not just their physical well-being but also fostering a sense of community, companionship, and quality of life.

The team at HillView Care understands the importance of holistic care, and the critical nature of the role allied health plays in supporting residents. Let’s take a look at the role of allied health in residential aged care.

Allied health in aged care

Allied health encompasses a range of specialised healthcare professions, each contributing to the holistic care of aged care residents. These professionals play a crucial role in addressing the diverse health needs of elderly residents.

At HillView Care, the emphasis on allied health services is rooted in the recognition that each resident has unique needs. Our on-site physiotherapy team tailors care plans to address the specific challenges residents may face, with a focus on improving and maintaining mobility.

On-site physiotherapy

Our on-site physiotherapists play an integral role in the HillView Care team. They bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise in musculoskeletal health, mobility, and rehabilitation. Having our physiotherapists on-site ensures our residents have easy access to these specialist services to address any concerns they have.

Helping residents optimise their mobility is a key focus for the HillView Care physiotherapy team. By offering carefully curated exercise routines, balance assessments, and range-of-motion activities, residents benefit from a holistic approach designed to enhance their physical well-being.

Residents have easy access to expert care without the need for external appointments, within the comfort of their home.

HillView Care Wellness Program

The HillView Care Wellness Program is overseen by the on-site physiotherapy team. It’s designed in collaboration with residents and aims to promote and maintain the physical function of residents,

The HillView Care Wellness Program consists of a 12-week program that considers our residents’ goals, preferences, and health conditions. Residents participating in the Wellness Program benefit from a range of practical treatments, including strength and conditioning exercises, balance drills, range of movement activities, and pain relief massages. These treatments are tailored to the specific needs and diagnoses of each resident.

To ensure the effectiveness of the programs, our physiotherapists conduct ongoing assessments. At the midpoint (6 weeks) and conclusion (12 weeks) of each program, residents undergo comprehensive reviews. This allows for real-time adjustments, reflecting the resident’s progress and evolving needs.

At HillView Care’s residential aged care homes, we value allied healthcare to help residents enhance their physical well-being. Our approach to care ensures that residents thrive in an environment that prioritises their unique health needs.
