Introducing the HillView Care Wellness Program

The team at HillView Care are excited to introduce the launch of our Wellness program at both our Gold Coast residential aged care homes.

We know that as we age there are many reasons why mobility can decrease and it can have a huge impact on a resident’s psychological and physical health. Decreased mobility can lead to a loss of independence, one of the greatest fears people have as they age.

For years our experienced diversional therapists at HillView Care have been helping our residents stay active and healthy through a range of engaging activities and events. From walking groups to Bocce, residents can stay connected and exercise on a regular basis.

Other activities include shuffleboard and gardening. Through these engaging activities residents can reap many benefits including improved memory, enhanced mood, improved physical and mental health and stress relief.

About our Wellness Program

At HillView Care we put our residents’ health and wellbeing first, so to help promote healthy living and maintain our resident’s physical function we have started the HillView Care ‘Wellness Program’.

In addition to our diversional therapist’s curated activities, our trained on-site physiotherapy team have designed an individualised 12-week program for selected residents at HillView Care Ashmore and Merrimac.

Firstly, each resident is screened individually to assess their goals and preferences. This will help our physiotherapists tailor the program to meet their specific needs.

The program is made up of a variety of practical treatments including:

  • Strength and conditioning.
  • Balance.
  • Range of movement.
  • Massage for pain relief.
  • Functional treatments for specific illnesses or injuries.

The physiotherapy team will monitor the resident’s progress, then after six weeks they will create a summary to assess how the resident has performed during the first half of the program. They will make adjustments and changes if necessary.

After the 12-week program is complete, our physiotherapist will again re-assess the resident and amend the program depending on their previous outcome. If it’s deemed suitable, the resident will then commence another 12-week program to continue to improve their physical health.

It’s important to remember that each resident will have a different outcome, but the goal is to continue to maintain or improve their physical function and wellbeing. The resident will notice improvements during everyday activities as well as in their emotional wellbeing.

In addition to the HillView Care Wellness Program, we are also offering weekly gym sessions with our exercise therapists. This will help with the resident’s physical function and is conducted in a fun and happy environment.
