How to find the right type of aged care for your loved one

Looking for the right type of aged care home for your loved one isn’t as straightforward as you may first think. There are a lot of things to consider, especially if your loved one needs special medical care.

To make your search for an aged care home even more complicated, not every aged care home offers the same types of services, so you’ll need to do your research to find out exactly what they provide.

Everything you need to know about HillView Care

At HillView Care we offer respite care, dementia care and residential aged care. Let’s take a quick look at the differences.

Residential aged care

There are many reasons why you and your loved one have made the decision that it’s no longer right for them to stay living independently. It could be due to their health, or because it’s becoming increasingly difficult for them to complete daily tasks or get around their current home.

Residential aged care offers elderly residents care and support on a permanent basis. At HillView Care we provide accommodation and lots of help and support to help residents live their life to the fullest.

Some of the main features of our residential aged care on the Gold Coast at Merrimac and Ashmore include:

Spacious, comfortable rooms

If you’re looking for a permanent new home for your loved one, it’s important for them to be able to feel at home in their own space. At HillView Care we provide a variety of room types to suit every resident’s needs, including rooms for couples and deluxe suites.

24/7 medical support

If your loved one has a medical condition and can no longer live independently, on-site medical care is essential. At our Ashmore and Merrimac residential aged care we have medical staff who are there 24/7 to care for the needs of your loved one.

Tasty meals

Our residential aged care residents are spoiled for choice with our beautiful home-cooked meals, prepared by chefs onsite. We even consult an experienced dietician to ensure all our resident’s nutritional and dietary needs are being met.

Fun social activities

Many of our residents are fit and active and have great social lives! Our experienced diversional therapists know how to throw a good event and organise a range of activities both on-site and in the community.

Our residents love our events, which have included a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, Twilight Concerts, celebrations for St Patrick’s Day and World Wildlife Day (where we have visits from some wonderful native wildlife), a visit from a baby animal farm, concerts and much more.

We always have something going on at HillView Care, some of our regular activities include:

  • Social morning tea
  • Dog therapy
  • Cooking demonstrations
  • Happy hours
  • Exercise classes
  • Ice-cream extravaganzas
  • Karaoke
  • Drumming
  • Concerts
  • Movie nights
  • Men’s group outings
  • Walking groups
  • Bus trips

Here’s an example of some of our regular activities.

In residential aged care family and friends are always welcome. We even provide special spaces that have been designed for our residents to entertain and catch up with their loved ones. Bonus: our chefs are available to cater for private functions too!

Residential aged care also provides:

  • Help with meals, cleaning and laundry.
  • Help with personal care such as bathing and dressing.
  • Access to on-site services such as hairdressing, beauty treatment and physiotherapy.

Respite care

Are you looking for permanent care for your ageing loved one or do you just really need a short break? We understand the challenges that arise when caring for loved ones, that’s why we offer premium respite care on the Gold Coast.

If you need a break, HillView Care will provide a comfortable and caring place for your loved one to stay while you take some time for yourself. Respite care is available for up to a few days, or weeks at a time and is also an option for those who have left hospital and require a little extra care.

Respite residents can access all our wonderful facilities, just like permanent residents. That means beautiful meals and well appointed rooms with 24/7 medical care.

Dementia Care

If your loved one has dementia it can make looking for the right aged care home even more emotionally challenging. It’s so important to find the right home to ensure they receive expert care from trained professionals in a comfortable and safe environment.

With approximately 472,000 Australians living with dementia, we understand the importance of tailoring care to meet the needs of those living with dementia. We’ve handpicked our staff to ensure they take a personal approach to each resident and understand their needs and journey with the illness.

With dementia care our main aim is to ensure the safety of residents and make them feel at home. Our experienced nurses also provide round-the-clock medical care on-site at both our Merrimac and Ashmore aged care homes.

You can see how we cater for every individual resident when you book a tour at HillView Care, we’re available Monday to Friday. Alternatively, request a callback and one of our friendly staff will be in touch to answer any questions you may have.
