At HillView Care, we know many seniors face unique dietary challenges, so we go above and beyond to create a menu that can be personalised to suit everyone. Our on-site chefs consult dietitians to provide meals that are highly nutritious and cater to our residents’ varied tastes.
Let’s talk about some of the most common dietary issues and our strategies to overcome them:
Taste buds naturally decrease in sensitivity as we age, so it’s not uncommon that many of our residents experience a change of taste. But this doesn’t mean HillView Care meals don’t need to be flavourful! Our experienced chefs design delicious dishes using a range of seasonal fresh produce, spices, herbs and seasonings to enhance the flavour profile of each meal.
Chewing and swallowing is difficult for some of our residents, but our chefs have come up with an innovative way to still serve them the food they love. Using food moulds, we transform pureed meals into visually appealing dishes, such as reshaping chicken into drumsticks. Favourites like mini cottage pies and agar-agar-set cakes offer beautiful options for residents with swallowing difficulties, ensuring a positive and satisfying dining experience for everyone.
It’s not a good dinner conversation, but constipation and diarrhoea affect many seniors. At HillView Care, we tackle these concerns with personalised dietary approaches and hydration strategies, ensuring the well-being and comfort of our residents. We ensure our meals are nutritionally balanced, high in fibre and designed to promote digestive health.
We go above and beyond to provide healthy meals to our HillView Care residents. Our team designs each day’s menu to ensure the perfect balance of protein, carbohydrates, fresh fruits and vegetables, calories and iron. We prepare meals fresh daily, whenever possible, ensuring residents receive food that is both wholesome and flavourful. Fresh produce is delivered to our kitchen 2-3 times per week, guaranteeing the highest quality ingredients.
Residents with dementia can also face unique dietary challenges. At HillView Care, we provide specialised attention to our dementia care residents, implementing tailored strategies to overcome obstacles related to food. Our dedicated dietitians focus on offering familiar foods and minimising distractions during meals. By addressing the specific needs of residents with dementia, we ensure they receive balanced nutrition and enjoy a positive dining experience.
Changes in medication can impact appetite. Thankfully, with a diverse menu, we can address the potential impact of medication changes on appetite. Our chefs cater to various tastes and preferences, ensuring residents have enticing choices even if they experience fluctuations in appetite due to medication.
At HillView Care, we understand and address the unique dietary challenges seniors face with a personalised and innovative approach. Our on-site chefs collaborate with dietitians to create meals that are not only highly nutritious but also tailored to the different tastes of our residents.
It’s more than just providing meals; it’s about creating a dining experience that enhances the overall quality of life for our residents. With dedication and creativity, we continue to evolve our culinary approach to meet the unique needs of every resident in our care.
